The Thunderbolts, a sort of Marvel's Suicide Squad, have no doubt found their leader.
Currently on Disney +, the series She-Hulk: Lawyer is not really unanimous. In addition to its few unsavory twerks, the series led by Tatiana Maslany has not, for the moment, convinced by its humor, nor by its lawyer series side, nor by its unequal feminism. So, do you have to be crazy to defend She-Hulk? Yes and no, since a few ideas and themes come to save the whole thing from complete wreckage.
And as the episodes follow one another from week to week, Marvel is preparing the continuation of its Machiavellian plan partially unveiled this summer at Comic-Con in San Diego. Along with the new Avengers movies and the return of the Fantastic Four, the arrival of a brand new team within the MCU, the Thunderbolts, is particularly intriguing. An unprecedented license which should nonetheless bring to mind familiar faces from the Marvel Universe, as Deadline reporter Justin Kroll recalled, citing a few names on the Town podcast:
“About [Florence Pugh], actually her character should appear in Thunderbolts, which is basically Marvel's Suicide Squad. Hopefully it will work better. But the idea would be for her to lead the team of Wyatt Russell and Daniel Brühl, those antiheroes who aren't really good, but they're not really bad. Besides, people seem to like Yelena's character.”
The character of Yelena Belova, played by the wonderful Florence Pugh (Midsommar, The Little Drummer Girl) should therefore make her return to the MCU at the head of the Thunderbolts, after being introduced in Black Widowand reappeared in the Hawkeye series. Yelena Belova has never been part of the Thunderbolts team during its more than twenty years in the comics, unlike John Walker (Wyatt Russell) and Baron Zemo (Daniel Brühl), both of whom should fight alongside him in the film, according to Justin Kroll.
Note that Marvel has yet to confirm any of this information. On September 9, 10 and 11, the D23 will take place in California and will undoubtedly be a great opportunity to learn a little more from Disney about these Thunderbolts. As a reminder, the feature film will be directed by Jake Schreier (The hidden face of Margo, Kidding), should be released in our cinemas on July 24, 2024 and will conclude the fifth phase of the MCU.
In the meantime, the exciting Florence Pugh will soon star in Don't Worry Darling, directed by Olivia Wilde, but also appear in the upcoming Dune and in the new feature film directed by Christopher Nolan, Oppenheimer. For their part, Wyatt Russell recently spent a head in the exciting series By God's Order and Daniel Brühl in the prequel to the saga Kingsman, released at the end of 2021.
